For the second consecutive year, Drake students won Principal’s Voice of the Young Consumer University Partnership Challenge, which pits six Iowa universities against each other to solve a real and timely challenge for Principal Financial Group. Read more in the Drake Newsroom.
Final call for cupcakes & kickball—bonus jeans day
This is the final call for registrations to the All Staff Council Kickball Tournament (May 17, 2–4 pm). Registration is open for 4–6 teams of up to 10 staff and/or faculty members. Games will be 25 minutes, with the winner determined when time is up.
Need a team? Register as an individual and All Staff Council will assign you to a team or create a team of “free agents.” Register to play by May 12 at www.drake.edu/asc.
We’ll also be celebrating with a special jeans day as well as free mini-cupcakes from Crème Cupcake for everyone (first come/first serve), so join us in Helmick Commons.

Final faculty/staff social of the year
The next Drake Social is all about appreciation, and you won’t want to miss it! Plan to attend Thursday, May 11, at 4:30 p.m., in the Shivers Hospitality Suite.
There will be a celebration of service anniversaries and retirements from the past year, sponsored by the Human Resources office. Professional and Career Development Services will honor all faculty and staff for the role they play in our graduates’ extremely high accomplishment rate. Finally, you will have the opportunity to share any appreciation you have for the work of various campus departments.
In addition to the usual refreshments provided by the Provost’s Office, treats will be provided by HR and Professional and Career Development.

Elevating the Drake brand
This summer, important work will begin on elevating and energizing the Drake University brand. A stronger branding effort is necessary in order to better tell the Drake story, and to help boost prospective student inquiries, alumni engagement, development efforts, and other facets essential to institutional growth and success, including campus pride.
University Communications, the Office of Admission, and the Office of the President partnered on a competitive review process during Spring semester. Within the past few weeks, the University selected and hired 160over90, a creative agency with extensive expertise in consumer branding and higher education. To learn more about how 160over90 will approach its work with our institution, watch this short video prepared by the firm following its pitch presentation.
In the coming weeks, the discovery phase will get underway, beginning with focus groups and involving diverse perspectives from across campus. That step will be followed by a blend of quantitative and qualitative research designed to better understand how key audiences in the metro and across the region perceive the Drake brand. These findings will inform how the Drake brand should evolve, and help shape the strategy for elevating the University’s brand heading into the next academic year and beyond.

Hubbell Dining remodel
Hubbell Dining Hall will undergo remodeling this summer so it is ready for the fall semester! We plan to order chairs in May to receive them in time for the reopening. We need your help to vote for the pair of chairs you prefer. Sample chairs will be in Hubbell Dining Hall through Thursday, May 11. Please come by, try them out, and vote for your favorite pair before you leave for the summer!
