J-Term registration deadline

Online registration for 2016 J-Term will end on Wednesday, Dec. 23. After that date, you will not be able to add or swap J-Term classes online. Registration will resume when the University reopens from winter break on Monday, Jan. 4. At that time, all J-Term adds or drops must be conducted using the paper add-drop forms available in all deans’ offices.

If the changes you make to your J-Term schedule have financial consequences, you will be either billed or refunded in early January. The J-Term Student Finance FAQ has more detailed information about J-Term charges.

Online registration for the Spring 2016 semester will remain open during winter break, ending Sunday, Jan. 24.

Sara Schoneberg, student records service specialist, was recognized Dec. 9 with the Called to be True Blue Award from All Staff Council. She was honored for being a valuable team player who is always willing to go above and beyond.

sara-true-blue

As her nominator stated:

“Over the past few weeks, Sara has been instrumental in assisting with the posting of transfer credit for current Drake students for the Spring 2016 semester. Without her assistance, not nearly as many students would have been able to register in an earlier timeslot. This exhibits a willingness to learn a new skill set and goes above and beyond her other daily job responsibilities. Her hard work has not only made the Office of Student Records run efficiently, it is also directly helping Drake students toward their goal of earning their undergraduate degree.”

Do you know of a staff member or department that has gone above and beyond to exemplify True Blue spirit? Nominate them today!

New Occupational Therapy program hits milestone

We are pleased to announce that at its December meeting, the Accreditation Council on Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) voted to grant candidacy status to the Occupational Therapy Doctorate program at Drake.

As a result of this action, Drake may admit students into the Occupational Therapy Doctorate program according to the approved timeline (May 2016). The board noted the following:

Strengths:

  • There is strong support from Drake University for the occupational therapy doctorate program with support from administration and other faculty members to assist in program development and implementation. This is the first rehabilitation profession program at Drake.
  • The program has hired a very experienced program director and two full-time faculty members, all with doctorate degrees.
  • The program has an adequate number of fieldwork sites that cover the lifespan, variety of populations, and health care settings.
  • The curriculum reflects a thorough and thoughtful course of study with an emphasis on service-learning.

Congratulations to Ann Burkhardt, Kathy Griner, Jayna Fischbach, their staff Carmalee Woods and Cassie Paterson, and the staff in the Experiential and Student Affairs offices, for their work to prepare the report and participate in many discussions related to the 50 standards. They are to be congratulated for their expedient work in submitting a high-quality report that will pave the way for a successful program at Drake!
