Human Resources welcomes Katie Northness

20151209_20151209 Northness_Katie_HR_0011Drake Human Resources welcomes Katie Northness to the role of assistant director, wellness and engagement, today. Katie has her B.S. in Health, Leisure and Sport Studies from the University of Iowa and is a Drake alumna with a Master of Public Administration.

Her background includes creating, implementing, and evaluating wellness and health education programs for employees. Katie has more than 10 years’ experience in the wellness field and has spent the past several years at UnityPoint Health as a wellness coordinator.

She will play a vital role in developing and executing strategies to promote employee health and wellness that target the overall health, wellbeing, and productivity of faculty and staff, and the promotion of programs that enhance employee engagement and job satisfaction.

Office of Alumni Relations welcomes three new staff members

The Office of Alumni Relations is excited to share the addition of three new staff members to our team.

Heather Hendrix is the administrative assistant/receptionist to the Alumni Relations team. She is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, with a degree in elementary and early childhood education. Prior to Drake, she served as a patient service representative at UnityPoint.

Kim Jones joins the team as the assistant director of alumni relations. Kim returns to Drake having previously served on the publications team from 1985 to 1992. Her responsibilities include student and campus engagement and working with young alumni and the Young Alumni Committee. She holds a B.F.A. from Arizona State and previously served as the head women’s softball coach at AIB College of Business from 2012 to 2015.

Nicki Kimm is joining the Office of Alumni Relations following 10 years in the Dallas Center – Grimes Community School District. She serves in the role of administrative assistant supporting the Alumni House team.

University Communications welcomes Justice Simpson

Join us in welcoming our newest member of the University Communications team, Justice Simpson! Justice comes to us from the Kansas City area where she has been engaged in video production and presentation work in the private sector. She will be our digital content specialist, managing video and photography production, overseeing the Drake Student Photo Bureau, and working with our website and email marketing communications systems. We are all excited to expand our video production capabilities and bring that expertise to enhancing the image and reputation of Drake.

Drake welcomes new Title IX coordinator, equity and inclusion policy specialist

Drake welcomes Kathryn Overberg to the role of Title IX coordinator, equity and inclusion policy specialist. Kathryn’s role is to oversee sexual harassment and sexual assault complaints involving students and to ensure the University’s overall compliance with Title IX, the federal law that prohibits sex discrimination in education. In addition to her focus on Title IX compliance, Kathryn will provide consultative guidance on policies and practices that will advance Drake’s commitment to nondiscrimination and inclusivity. She will conduct training and be involved in a variety of prevention and outreach activities. She will work closely with Student Life, the Office for Sexual Violence Response and Healthy Relationship Promotion, Disability Services, the Office of Residence Life, Academic Affairs, and Human Resources.

Kathryn has extensive experience in higher education and Title IX related issues, serving as associate counsel for Iowa State University where she built strong working relationships across campus in academic and non-academic units. Kathryn received her bachelor’s degree in political science from Washington University in St. Louis, where she also played varsity soccer. She earned her law degree from the University of Iowa.

College of Arts and Sciences welcomes Emily Kruse to staff

The College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to welcome Emily Kruse back to campus! She assumed the role of assistant to the dean in the College of Arts and Sciences effective Aug. 5. Emily had formerly been part of Drake’s Office of Admission, and many of you will recognize her from her former role in recruiting students to become part of the Drake community. Most recently, Emily worked with the office of admissions at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa.

As assistant to the dean, Emily will lead multiple functions for the College: coordinating the strategic initiatives in the College, developing the College’s communications strategy, and orchestrating the daily workflows in the dean’s office. She brings exceptional energy and talent. Please join me in welcoming her back to Drake!
