On Tuesday, April 18, Drake is partnering with Wells Fargo employees for a service day at Youth Emergency Shelter and Services to help them get ready for their annual Duck Derby fundraising event. There are two shifts available: 12–2 p.m. and 2–4 p.m. Pizza and transportation will be provided! Students, faculty, and staff are all welcome and can register online.

In June 2016, a small majority of referendum voters tipped the scale toward “leave,” inciting the U.K. to begin steps to remove itself from the European Union. This week Prime Minister Theresa May triggered Article 50, the official two-year process required by the Treaty of Lisbon for any country wishing to leave the EU, making people all over the world wonder what’s to come. When exactly will the U.K. leave the EU, and under what terms? How will Brexit affect trade between the U.K. and remaining EU countries, and how will it affect Britain’s relationship with America? The Harkin Institute welcomes British Consul General Stephen Bridges on April 18 at 7 p.m. in Sussman Theater to answer these questions and prepare us for what’s to come, as Brexit will certainly lead to changes in the way the U.S. and the U.K. interact.

Weight Watchers’ unique mix of face-to-face interaction with a trained leader, group support, accountability, digital tools, and the convenience of meetings in the workplace has been a winning combination for many of your co-workers at Drake.
Weekly Monday meetings include a confidential weigh-in from 12:15 to 12:30 p.m., followed by a 30-minute class. Classes are held in Opperman Hall, Conference Room 262.

The Peerceive Employee Recognition Portal rolled out April 10. Peerceive is an online peer-to-peer recognition program where co-workers and managers come together to recognize each other for their great work. This is just one more way to recognize each other’s work, in addition to programs like All Staff Council’s Called to Be True Blue award.
The Peerceive dashboard includes easy-to-use tools to send electronic kudos or e-cards. Kudos are a way for co-workers to express gratitude for a unique contribution to the workplace. You can send them as often as you deem worthy and to any employee in any department. E-cards are an electronic version of a hand-written note. Use these to wish another employee a happy birthday, a general “congratulations,” or even a get well soon.
You have access to the Peerceive Employee Recognition Portal on blueView under the Employee tab. It is located in a channel on the right-hand side of the page. Bookmark it for easy access! Your user name is your Drake email address and your initial password is your employee number, including any leading zeroes. You are invited to nominate students for the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (CPHS) D-PREP program.
D-PREP is a program that introduces students to careers in the health care professions by educating them about opportunities in health sciences and inspiring them to explore different pathways. Students participate in hands-on laboratory experiences, educational sessions, and interactive discussions with students and faculty in the CPHS to understand how to best prepare for a career in health care. Special emphasis is placed on promoting cultural competence and diversity in health care and among health professionals. The overarching goal of this program is to expose students to a wide variety of opportunities within health care and educate them about how they can best prepare for a career in the health professions.
Program Goals:
This summer we will host an overnight event for students who are interested in learning more about careers in health care and what they can do with a degree in the sciences. This event will take place on Thursday, July 20–Friday, July 21, on campus and will include a number of activities that will help students learn about preparing for a career in the health professions. Our sessions will include:

Due to the costs involved in providing an overnight experience on campus, there is an $80 fee for participating in the D-PREP program. All students that meet the eligibility criteria above are welcome to apply. Scholarships may be available to students from traditionally underrepresented groups within the health care professions.
If you have students who are interested in a career in the health professions, please nominate them using our nomination form. Students will be notified of your nomination via email, at which time we will send them a link to complete our online application. Student applications are due by Thursday, June 1. Students will be notified of their acceptance into the program via email by Thursday, June 15.
