The campus community submitted more than one hundred name suggestions to Cowles Library to help name its bulldog statue. The field was narrowed down to five finalists and there was an online voting period, in which faculty, staff, and students selected their favorite choice. Find out the winning name on Friday, April 26, at 11 a.m. in Cowles Library. We’ll gather around the bulldog statue, announce the winning name, and bestow our bulldog statue with a nameplate. The Drake University Veterans Association is proud to bring together all military-affiliated members of the Drake community. The association is hosting a reception on Friday, April 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Olmsted Center, Pomerantz Stage. Drake students, faculty, staff, and alumni who are veterans and military family members are invited to attend to socialize with other campus community members who are veterans or military family members. Light refreshments will be served.

Anna Steenson, digital media production senior, won two Emmys at the recent Upper Midwest National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences 2018 awards contest. She won in both the Animation/Graphics/Special Effects and Director categories of the college/university competition. Steenson was honored in last year’s contest as well.

Catherine Gillespie, associate dean and professor of education, recently published the book Putting Together the Puzzle Pieces of Full Eating Disorder Recovery. It is available on Amazon in paper and kindle version. The book draws on the results of two research studies that Gillespie conducted, along with her own personal experience and others’ research in the area of eating disorder recovery. It is unique because it is a readable, accessible hybrid of research and personal experience.
The Des Moines Corporate Games is an eight-week company based competition (June 3 – July 31) that promotes teamwork and company pride, and it is a lot of fun!
You may participate in one or more events. Events range from team-based to individual and competitive to recreational. All activities are held in the evening and on weekends, and are free (except for golf cart rental). The games are open to all full-time and regular part-time employees, interns, and retirees. Drake will compete against other local companies for a chance to win individual and team medals as well as the Corporate Games trophy.
We need as many people as possible to be a part of these games and to show our Drake pride. Do you see any sports or events you can participate in to help Drake take home the coveted Corporate Cup?
