Play HealthyU BINGO and Stay on Track with Your Summer Health Goals

Looking for a fun, motivating way to stay on track with your health goals? Join us this July for HealthyU BINGO.  The goal is to fill up a blank BINGO card (or two) during the month with healthy activities that you complete from a provided list and then get together to play some games of HealthyU BINGO for prizes.

To get started, or if you have questions, contact Linda Feiden at linda.feiden@drake.edu.  All participants will receive a packet that includes a list of HealthyU BINGO activities and a blank BINGO card.

Youth Entrepreneurship Day Camp

Registration is open for Drake University’s inaugural Youth Entrepreneurship Day. The new program will take place on Tuesday, July 14, and is designed for students entering sixth through eighth grade.

Hosted by the Buchanan Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, the one-day experience gives middle school students a hands-on introduction to entrepreneurship from Drake staff. Students will identify a real-world problem, map a business model, and pitch their ideas to peers and instructors.

Drake is hosting the Youth Entrepreneurship Day Camp in Aliber Hall, 2847 University Avenue, Des Moines. The program begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. The cost to attend is $75 per camper, and lunch is included. Space is limited, and families are encouraged to register their children by Saturday, June 27.

A&S Dean Gesine Gerhard’s Next Chapter at Saint Mary’s College of California

Following the recent announcement that Gesine Gerhard is stepping down as Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, we are pleased to share an update on her next professional chapter. Dean Gerhard has accepted a position as the inaugural Dean of the newly unified School of Arts & Sciences at Saint Mary’s College of California, effective July 1, 2026.

As Dean Gerhard prepares for this transition, we want to express our deepest gratitude for the incredible legacy she leaves behind. Her contributions have prepared the College of Arts & Sciences to thrive in the years to come.

Celebrate Pride with Drake at the Capital City Pride Parade

June is Pride Month—our opportunity to celebrate Drake’s LGBTQIA+ community, honor their accomplishments, and support the ongoing pursuit of equal justice.

Come celebrate with us and walk alongside Drake University in the 2026 Capital City Pride Parade! All students, staff, faculty, alumni, and allies are welcome.

  • When: Sunday, June 14. Meet at 11:15 a.m. Parade from 12–1 p.m.
  • Where: East Village, Parking Lot 16 (Corner of E. Des Moines St. and E. 14th St.; entrance on E. Des Moines St.)
  • What to wear: Your favorite Drake Blue!

Griff II will be joining us! While it’s a bit too warm for him to walk the route, he’ll be cruising along in the air-conditioned Griffmobile.

  • Walk with us: Please register here so we know how many materials to bring.
  • Donate candy: If you can’t make it but still want to support, you can send candy for the parade to the Alumni House (2700 University Ave, Des Moines, IA 50311) to arrive by Friday, June 12.

Opportunities to Serve: All Staff Council Open Positions

Following the spring elections for All Staff Council (ASC), additional opportunities have become available. The following positions and committee members are needed starting June 1. Terms are 2–3 years, depending on the position.

ASC is a good way to network with other campus staff and work to help promote a positive and collaborative campus work environment. If you are classified as a staff member, interested, and committed to serving, please contact Lauren McCarthy, 2026-2027 ASC chair, at  lauren.mccarthy@drake.edu.

Events & Community Service Committee (2 positions)

The Events & Community Service Committee develops and implements plans for special events on campus and creates awareness of community service opportunities available for staff participation.

Governance Committee (1 position)

The Governance Committee finalizes the structure of the ASC by developing rules. This committee conducts yearly elections and attends to any rule changes, recommendations, or policies proposed.

Special Interest Committee (2 positions)

The Special Interest Committee explores initiatives, questions, and/or concerns presented to ASC through research, planning, and collaboration with appropriate offices on campus.

University Transitioning to New Reporting Service Provider: Drake Ethics Hotline

Beginning July 1, 2026, the University will transition its whistleblower reporting service provider from NAVEX EthicsPoint to MITRATECH Ethics Hotline (the Drake Ethics Hotline). Drake remains committed to offering a safe, secure, and anonymous avenue for community members to report concerns regarding suspected or known ethics and compliance violations. Functionally, nothing is changing. This decision was made in the course of standard contract review and in an effort to offer an important campus resource at a better price point.
