‘Help Your Shelf’ initiative

As we approach the end of the semester, we want to extend an invitation to students, staff, and faculty to donate items to the Help Your Shelf Initiative, a campus resource for students who need school supplies or personal care items. Feel free to bring the items listed below to Sofia Turnbull, 515–271–4615, sofia.turnbull@drake.edu. Items will be stored in Meredith Hall, Room 104. Whenever the room is not scheduled for an event (a weekly schedule is posted on the outside of the room) students may go in and retrieve the items they need. We greatly appreciate your generous support of this campus resource.

Prepare for January’s multi-factor authentication changes

Starting Jan. 4, when you login to one of the campus systems set up with multi-factor authentication (MFA), you will be prompted to verify your identity by using the Microsoft Authenticator app.

These systems will include:

  • Self Service (including Employee Dashboard and Personal Information screens)
  • Blackboard
  • myDrake
  • Online versions of Microsoft Office programs

To help you prepare, we’ve created a FAQ and knowledge base guides linked below:

The first 150 people who submit proof of downloading the Microsoft Authenticator app and connecting it with their Drake account will receive a $1 off coupon to use at the campus Starbucks. Visit forms.office.com/r/HGSY0L1JSf to see complete rules and enter. Coupons are going quickly, so act soon.

Watch OnCampus for further updates as the Jan. 4 deadline approaches.

Newman Civic Fellow nominations being accepted

The Office of Community Engaged Learning is now accepting nominations for the Newman Civic Fellowship.

The Newman Civic Fellowship is a national award that recognizes and supports community-committed students who are changemakers and public problem-solvers. Students should engage in collaborative action with others from campus or from surrounding communities in order to create long-term social change, take action in addressing issues of inequality and political polarization, and demonstrate the motivation and potential for effective long-term civic engagement. Through the fellowship, Campus Compact provides students with training and resources that nurture their assets and passions and help them develop strategies for social change.

Nominees must be enrolled at Drake University for the Spring 2022 semester, and the 2022–2023 academic year.

To nominate a student, please complete this short nomination form.

A committee will review nominations to select one student from Drake University to be nominated for the Fellowship. That student will need to complete additional paperwork.

Please submit nominations to Amanda Martin, assistant director of Community Engaged Learning, at amanda.martin@drake.edu, no later than Jan. 6.  More information about the Fellowship can be found at compact.org/newman-civic-fellowship/.

Give the gift of Bulldog Bucks

It’s easy to give the gift of Bulldog Bucks.  All Drake students and employees have Bulldog Bucks accounts that can be used for on-campus dining (Hubbell, Starbucks, Cowles Coffee Shop, C-Store), off-campus dining (at participating restaurants or as a GrubHub payment method), or at the University Bookstore.

If you’d like to gift a friend or co-worker Bulldog Bucks, you can do so in the deposit portal by clicking “Make a Guest Deposit” instead of signing in with your credentials. You just need your recipient’s email address and a credit or debit card to make a deposit.

Access the deposit website in the myDrake portal or by this direct link.

To see which off-campus businesses can accept Bulldog Bucks as a payment method, feel free to visit acceptinglocations.com/drake. You can also make deposits from this site.

To pay for GrubHub purchases with Bulldog Bucks, you can add your campus card as a payment method in the app.  Doing this also gives you access to GrubHub +, which entitles you to free delivery, regardless of what payment method you choose to use in the future.

If you are a department that wishes to give Bulldog Bucks to a large group of people (versus doing a single credit card transaction online), feel free to contact Sara Heijerman (sara.heijerman@drake.edu), and she can assist with your request.

Feel free to contact studentservices@drake.edu with any general Bulldog Bucks questions or concerns.  We hope you have a great winter break!
