Last week of biometrics screenings!

Time is running out to participate in the Drake Wellness Incentive! If you’re on Drake’s health plan and wish to save approximately $300 off your health insurance premium in 2017, you must complete a wellness screening and online wellness assessment.

These screenings are being held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week in the lower level of the Olmsted. This is the last week of the screenings and there are limited times available so if you are interested, you must register now. To schedule your screening, click here. Sign in with username DRAKE and password SCREEN (all CAPS). Find additional information in the On-campus Health Screening Scheduling Guide.

Did you sign up for an on-campus screening but don’t remember your appointment date/time? Check your received, spam, or deleted emails for an email confirmation sent to you by UnityPoint with the subject: Health Screen Confirmation. It will be sent to the email address you entered on your registration. Questions regarding the on-campus UnityPoint screenings should be sent to unitypointhealth.desmoines@gmail.com.

If you need to cancel your on-campus screening, send an email to jennifer.umphfleet@unitypoint.org with your name and date and time of cancelled appointment. You will need to re-register online for a new appointment. Changes can be made up to 48 hours prior to the screen time if slots are still available.

If you have already completed your biometric screening, don’t forget to complete your online wellness assessment on wellmark.com by Nov. 15.

Questions may be directed to Linda Feiden, assistant director, wellness & engagement, at linda.feiden@drake.edu or 271-1880.

Attend the CLAC Consortium Conference

Faculty and students are invited to attend the 10th conference of the Cultures and Languages Across Curriculum (CLAC) Consortium on Friday, Oct. 21, and Saturday, Oct. 22, sponsored by World Languages and Cultures. The conference will explore definitions and comprehensive strategies for infusing foreign language, as well as intercultural skill sets and competencies for developing a global mindset, throughout the curriculum. The 2016 theme—Developing Responsible Global Citizenship Through CLAC—emerges from Drake’s longstanding commitment to provide “an exceptional learning environment that prepares students for meaningful personal lives, professional accomplishments, and responsible global citizenship.”

For more information about the workshops, schedule, and registration, please visit http://clac2016.wp.drake.edu/conference-schedule/.

Drake students can attend the conference at a special rate. If you would like to attend but have financial limitations, please contact Marc Pinheiro-Cadd directly at marc.pinheiro-cadd@drake.edu

The primary purpose of CLAC is to provide students with opportunities to use their linguistic and cultural competencies outside of the language classroom. To show our commitment to CLAC, 25 Drake professors now include CLAC options for their students as a result of CLAC workshop participation the past two summers.

Another ranking win for Drake

The inaugural Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education ranking of U.S. colleges placed Drake University at 149 in a list that includes more than 1,000 schools nationwide. The new rankings are based on 15 key indicators that assess colleges and universities in four areas: outcomes, resources, engagement, and environment. The list combines public and private institutions of all sizes into a single list. Drake performed exceptionally well in the measurement of value added to salaries for graduates, scoring 93.5 out of 100.

The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings is pioneering in that it puts student success and learning at its heart. The 15 performance indicators on which it is based have been selected in order to answer the questions that matter the most when choosing a university. An explanation of the methodology is at www.on.wsj.com/college-ranking-methodology. Read more about this ranking in the Drake Newsroom.
