Cool Jobs Expo

Horses (yes, real horses), Griff (and other dogs), and Girl Scout cookies will be part of the showcase of alumni with cool jobs featured at the second annual Cool Jobs Expo on Monday, Oct. 29, from 5—7 p.m. in (and near) Meredith Hall.

Hosted by the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, the expo will feature a dozen employers presenting, in 15-minute drop-in sessions, what it took to get their cool job. Register in the Meredith Lobby starting at 4:30 p.m.

Take the ITS Student Phishing Quiz

Now through Nov. 2, ITS is holding a Phishing Quiz, a contest where Drake students can learn about how to identify phishing emails and fraudulent websites. The first 500 people to take the quiz will win a certificate for a free taco courtesy of Taco John’s. Everyone who completes the quiz will be entered to win one of ten additional prize packages. Additionally, ITS will have a table in the Olmsted breezeway on Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.; and Monday, Oct. 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Spin the wheel, answer an IT security question, and win more prizes.

Student admission free to all Drake basketball games

Drake undergraduate, graduate, and law students receive one free admission to all home Drake basketball games.

Drake Athletics has partnered with Flash Seats to help give students a convenient way to attend athletic events. Students will receive a confirmation email from Flash Seats notifying them that their tickets have been loaded onto their Drake Card. Once they receive the confirmation, they can head to the game and cheer on the Bulldogs. If a student does not receive an email from Flash Seats, contact the Drake Athletics Ticket Office at tickets@drake.edu.

All students must present their Drake Card to receive admission. Below is the necessary information for attending basketball games at the The Knapp Center.

  • Enter The Knapp Center Southwest Student Entrance
  • Present your Drake Card to the Drake Athletics staff person. Your ticket will be printed at the gate
  • Student seating is available in Sections J–K

Non-profit networking event

Are you interested in finding a meaningful volunteer opportunity for the year? Sign up to attend the Non-Profit Networking event on Monday, Oct. 29, from 4—5 p.m. in Olmsted, Rooms 310/311 to talk with organizations such as Lutheran Services in Iowa, Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity, Iowa Homeless Youth Centers, and more. Students will sign up for a 10-minute block with a non-profit to share about themselves, learn about the organization, and ask questions. Refreshments will be served. Sign up here.

Dylan Marron to come to Drake Oct. 24

Dylan Marron is an IFP Gotham Award & Drama Desk-nominated writer, performer, and video maker. He creates a wide variety of content focused around all areas of social justice and dismantles topics like racism, sexism, and LGBTQ discrimination. He currently hosts & produces “Conversations with People Who Hate Me,” a podcast where he calls up the people behind negative comments on the internet. Join us on Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 7–9 p.m. in Sussman Theater to hear Dylan’s perspective on the world and what he has learned from his time sharing his thoughts in the spotlight.

Changing Your Major? Submit your change by Oct. 22

If you are an undergraduate or pharmacy student who plans to make changes to your field-of-study and would like those changes take effect before registration begins, you must file your request to your dean’s office by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22. Requests submitted after Oct. 22 may not be accommodated until Wednesday, Nov. 14.
