November is American Diabetes Month. One in three American adults is prediabetic, which puts them at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Of those at risk, over 84% don’t know it.
The only way to know for certain whether you are diabetic or pre-diabetic is through a blood test. But anyone can take this quick one minute survey from the American Diabetes Association to find out if you’re at risk. By understanding your risk, you can take the necessary steps to help prevent or delay type 2 diabetes.
Check out the American Diabetes Association and CDC websites to learn more about this disease, how to prevent it and how to fight back to help transform your life.

Starting Nov. 1, we’ve added a new partner to the off-campus Bulldog Bucks program. You can now add your campus card as a payment method for GrubHub purchases. Complete a GrubHub purchase using your Bulldog Bucks before Nov. 21, and you’ll be entered into a drawing for a $50.00 GrubHub gift card.
Adding your Campus Card to the GrubHub platform will also give you free access to GrubHub+. GrubHub+ gives you access to unlimited free deliveries and more exclusive perks for no additional monthly fee. We hope that in addition to our established neighborhood Bulldog Bucks Merchants, you can also use this new partnership with GrubHub to expand your network of convenient dining options, both in Des Moines or as you travel.
Adding your campus card to your GrubHub account on a mobile device is easy:
As a reminder, Bulldog Bucks are funds on your Drake ID card that you (or a guest!) can load funds into at your convenience. These funds carry forward from semester to semester as long as you are an active cardholder at Drake, and can be loaded in any amount, at any time. Visit the website www.acceptinglocations.com/drake to see which neighborhood businesses, along with GrubHub restaurants, can accept your funds. Funds can also be added at that site or in the myDrake portal.
Please note that this program (and the Bulldog Bucks account in general) are available for both student and employee use. Also, Bulldog Bucks are not your meal plan funds – meal plans can only be used on campus at Drake Dining locations. Bulldog Bucks can be used for on and off campus food, Drake Bookstore purchases, and printing transactions.
We hope you’ll take advantage of ordering food both on and off campus with this new partnership. Enjoy!

Drake’s Office of Student Financial Planning was honored by the Iowa Association of Financial Aid Administrators (IASFAA) with the John E. Moore Award. Named for IASFAA’s first president, the award recognizes a financial aid office that demonstrates “the highest standards of service and commitment to their students and community.”
Additionally, IASFAA recognized Chris Ditter, associate director of Student Financial Planing, with the Meritorious Service Award for her contributions to IASFAA’s Electronic Services Committee. The Meritorious Service Award recognizes a significant contribution to IASFAA and/or the financial aid profession. Selection is based upon leadership, work on an important project, or significant service to students, the association or the profession.

The Global Citizen Forum planning committee invites your participation in enhancing our understanding and awareness of changemaking. Simply put, a changemaker is anyone who takes creative action to problem solve societal issues and works toward solutions for the good of all. Practicing changemaking is something that everyone can do.
On the afternoon of March 3, 2022, we will gather to celebrate the Every Bulldog a Changemaker initiative that is highlighted in The Ones campaign launched Oct. 28. This gathering will leverage a fast-paced visual storytelling format known as PechaKucha.
Our goals for this gathering are to:
Call for Presenters:
We seek proposals from a wide range of contexts that speak to the Global Citizen Forum theme Everyone a Changemaker: Perspectives across disciplines. Presenters may highlight current or past initiatives, feature course projects, personal scholarship, or community partnerships that are yielding changemmaking opportunities for students. Presentations that focus on challenges and opportunities in the private, public and non-profit sectors (or across sectors) are all welcome. Selected presenters will each receive $75 honorarium for participating and the chance at a $250 grand prize!
What is PechaKucha?
Pronounced pe-cha ku-cha, with equal stress on each of the four syllables, is a Japanese presentation format that incorporates up to 20 images that are shown for 20 seconds each, totaling a six-minute 40-second presentation. This visual storytelling format keeps presentations concise and the audience engaged. Presenters will receive a power-point template and need to submit their slide deck a week in advance of the gathering.
Abstracts are due December 10, 2021. To submit a proposal, visit drake.edu/globalcitizenforum. Presenters will be selected and notified by January 2022.
The Global Citizen Forum is a series of events focused on themes of global importance that takes place in March each year. The Forum is part of Drake’s overall Engaged Citizen Experience (ECE).
