Griff joins Drake Choir for Singing Valentines fundraiser

This Valentine’s Day, the Drake Choir has an offer that turns any romance into puppy love. Drake University’s live bulldog mascot, Griff, plans to turn on the charm for the choir’s annual Singing Valentines fundraiser.

Lovebirds can treat their significant others with a song, roses, and—back by popular demand—a dapper bulldog, at any location in the Des Moines metro area on Thursday, Feb. 14.

Four different Singing Valentine packages are available, including:

  • True Romance—one rose and a song, $30
  • Cupid’s Favorite—six roses and a song, $45
  • Hopeless Romantic—one dozen roses and a song, $65
  • Bulldog Ballad—available only to Drake students and delivered to campus locations, a single rose and song, $10

A visit from Griff costs an extra $25. (He can’t carry a tune, but he loves to pose for photos.)

Griff and the gang are available from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. and 1–3 p.m. for deliveries in Des Moines metro cities including West Des Moines, Clive, Johnston, Windsor Heights, and Urbandale.

Deliveries are also available in the evening from 5:30–8:30 p.m., including to the additional cities of Ankeny, Altoona, Waukee, and Norwalk.

To order a singing valentine, visit www.drake.edu/valentines, or call 515-271-3024. Orders must be placed by Feb. 8. All proceeds support the Drake Choir’s May 2019 international tour.

Need to see a doctor?

If you need to see a doctor but don’t want to brave the winter weather, why not try the convenience of a virtual visit? Participants in Drake’s Health Plan have access to Doctor on Demand basic primary and urgent care medical services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Virtual (face-to-face) visits with board-certified doctors may be accessed via live video from smartphones, tablets, or computers. Doctor on Demand physicians can treat most common medical conditions and prescribe medication if needed. A $25 co-pay will be assessed to plan participants for Doctor on Demand primary care virtual visits.

To learn more about this option, view the Virtual Visit FAQ.

Peer Mentor/Academic Consultant information session

PMACs serve as a resource and motivator for first-year students. Based on research findings and past experiences, peer-to-peer interaction with an emphasis on students’ academic success and personal development is particularly important to overall growth during the first year in college. PMACs play an essential role in making sure new students are acclimated to their new environment before classes begin. Communication with new students will begin over the summer and continue throughout the fall semester.

There is a final information session on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 6:30 p.m. in Olmsted Center, Rooms 310–311. It is not mandatory to attend a session to apply for the PMAC position. Applications are due Sunday, Feb. 10, by 12 p.m. Apply here.

Contact the Peer Advisory Board at pab@drake.edu or Marina Verlengia at marina.verlengia@drake.edu with any questions.
