Des Moines Corporate Games

Are you looking for a fun way to be active this summer? Then the Des Moines Corporate Games may be perfect for you! You can participate in one or more events. Some are team based. Others are individual. Some are competitive and others non-competitive. And they cater to all fitness levels. AND, it won’t cost you anything (except renting a golf cart or bowling shoes if you participate in those events)!

The Des Moines Corporate Games (DMCG) will run from June 1 to July 31. All events are held after work or on weekends. Drake will be competing against other companies in our division. We earn points by simply participating in some events and being one of the top finishers in others. Many events also award medals to the top finishers. At the conclusion of the Des Moines Corporate Games, the coveted Corporate Cup will be awarded to the winner of each division. Below is a list of the sports and events that will be offered:

Coming soon: Peerceive

So what is Peerceive? Peerceive is an online peer-to-peer recognition program where co-workers and managers come together to recognize each other for their great work. Employees will be given a user name and password to access their dashboard.

The Peerceive dashboard includes easy-to-use tools to send electronic kudos or e-cards. Kudos are a way for co-workers to express gratitude for a unique contribution to the workplace. You can send them as often as you deem worthy and to any employee in any department. E-cards are an electronic version of a hand-written note. Use these to wish another employee a happy birthday, a general “congratulations,” or even a get well soon.

Everyone will have the ability to modify their personal settings so you can decide if you wish to receive an email notification when you have a kudos and/or e-card and whether you wish to be notified immediately or only on certain days at a particular time.

The Peerceive program is scheduled to be rolled out in March so be on the lookout for more information soon!

Learn more about long-term care

At one time or another, nearly everyone is touched by the need for long-term care; whether through an aging parent confined to a nursing home, a disabled friend, or a chronically ill relative receiving care at home. Although more than 40 percent of people require care in a nursing home, most long-term care provided in a nursing home is not covered by Medicare.

To learn more about long-term care insurance, plan to attend this presentation provided by Ronda Vry-Bills of Long Term Care Strategies. Registration is not required.

Date: March 2
Time: 2–3 p.m.
Location: Olmsted Center, Room 310

BUILD opportunity: Building a Safe Space

Please join us in a highly interactive and fun session focused on three key components of creating Safe Spaces for LGBTQ individuals:

Common Terminology and Phrases: Ever wonder: “What does LGBTQ stand for?” or “Can I use the word ‘queer?’” or “What pronouns should I use for a transgender person?”

Skill Development and Practice: Engage in real-life office and work-day scenarios, and discuss best practices for engaging productively.

Bystander Intervention: Leave equipped with skills to diffuse negative situations and to foster/facilitate dialogue. Example: a student says “I don’t understand how people can be transgender,” or a colleague says they don’t feel comfortable engaging LGBTQ students, what can you do?

Join Tony Tyler, director, student engagement, equity, and inclusion (team lead) on March 8 in Olmsted Center, Rooms 310/311, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to talk, listen, and ask questions! Registration is not required, but is helpful.  To do so, please email: debra.wiley@drake.edu.

2017 wellness screening and assessment information

Thank you to everyone who participated in last year’s Wellness Incentive Program. It was a great success and we will be offering the same program again in 2017 (to receive the incentive in 2018).
What is the Wellness Incentive Program? Those on Drake’s health plan can save approximately $300 in 2018 by completing a biometrics screening and online wellness assessment this year.

There are three biometric screening options:

  • Complete a screening with your physician and fill out a Physician Wellness Screening Results Form
  • Complete your screening at a participating Hy-Vee location
  • Complete your screening on campus through UnityPoint Health

The Hy-Vee option is available July 1 through Sept. 15, and the on-campus dates are Oct. 4–6, 9, 11, 13, 17, and 19. But you can complete a screening with your physician now. If you have a physical in 2017—with bloodwork—between Jan. 1 and Aug. 31, the results can be submitted as your biometric screening.

  • Take a copy of the Physician Wellness Screening Results Form to your appointment.
  • Your physician must sign the completed form and fax it to 1-855-827-6307. Results will be forwarded to Wellmark.
  • The signed form must be received directly from your doctor’s office by Sept. 30, 2017.
  • It is up to you to ensure your physician’s office submits the appropriate paperwork by the Sept. 30 deadline. To determine whether your paperwork has been received, contact Wellmark on their 24/7 help line at 1-877-252-8412.

After the completion of your screening, you will also need to take the online wellness assessment. Assessments are accessible on www.wellmark.com Feb. 1 through Nov. 17, 2017.

Questions may be directed to Linda Feiden, assistant director, wellness & engagement, at linda.feiden@drake.edu or 271-1880.
