Schedule your biometric screening today

If you are on Drake’s health plan, you must complete a biometric screening annually to retain your wellness premium discount, which is a savings of approximately $300.

The online registration form for on campus wellness screenings with UnityPoint is open. To guarantee a slot, register early. The screenings will be held between 6:30 and 10:30 a.m. in the lower level of the Olmsted Center on Oct. 2, 4, 5, 10-12, 16, and 17.  To schedule a screening, log in with the username DRAKE and password SCREEN (in all caps).

If you registered for an on-campus screening but don’t remember your appointment date and time, check your received, spam, or deleted email folders for an email confirmation from UnityPoint with the subject: Health Screen Confirmation. It would have been delivered to the email address you entered on your registration. Questions regarding the on-campus UnityPoint screenings should be sent to unitypointhealth.desmoines@gmail.com.

If you need to cancel an on-campus screening, send an email to jennifer.umphfleet@unitypoint.org with your name, date, and time of appointment you wish to cancel.  You will need to re-register online for a new appointment. Changes can be made up to 48 hours prior to the appointment, if slots are still available.

Join the Healthiest State Walk

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to join this year’s Healthiest State Walk on Wednesday, Oct. 3. This walk is part of the Healthiest State Initiative and its goal of making Iowa the healthiest state in the nation.

The walk will begin at the north entrance of the Olmsted Center at 12 p.m. and follow a path around Drake’s campus. Fruit infuser bottles and Grand Blue Mile tech shirts will be handed out, as supplies last, to faculty, staff, and students.

This year we are combining efforts with Sodexo’s Mindful Mile program. Lucas Flaherty, Sodexo campus dietitian, will be on hand to provide handouts, a few snacks, infused water, and more. If it rains, the walk will take place at the indoor track in The Knapp Center.

It takes approximately 15 minutes to walk a mile, so consider taking a few minutes away from work or studies to participate in this fun and healthy event.

For more information, email Linda Feiden at linda.feiden@drake.edu.

Walktober Step Challenge with Des Moines University and Wesley Life

Drake has challenged Des Moines University and Wesley Life to a step challenge. We are putting together a team and want you to participate.

During the month of October, team members from all three institutions will track their daily steps. You may use a pedometer, fitness tracker, or smart phone app. Any movement that records steps counts, including walking, running, and fitness classes. You will be provided with a journal to make recording easy and receive fun facts and tips along the way.

At the end of the month, the institution with the highest average step total will win a traveling trophy and bragging rights for the year. Individual prizes will be awarded as well. We need your help to win that trophy.

This event is open to all faculty, staff, and students so spread the word. To register, email Linda Feiden at linda.feiden@drake.edu. The deadline to register is Friday, Sept. 28.

Whether you desire to learn more about benefits and wellness initiatives, enhance some of your professional development skills, or learn more about Drake, a variety of opportunities are available.  Besides learning new information, you will be entered into drawings and receive credits for attending a variety of HR sponsored events, lasting 1 to 2 hours.

The program and online registration for the fall semester is now available, through the BUILD app in myDrake. To access the BUILD app, click on All Apps  and look to the Other Employee Apps section.
