ITS changes and reminders for the new semester

As we start a new semester, here are a few changes, and reminders about all things tech at Drake.

ITS support: Visit our IT service portal at service.drake.edu/its (or click the ITS Support button in myDrake) to get answers or report any tech issues. You can also call 515-271-3001 or visit the lower level of Carnegie Hall.

eduroam wireless network: Connect to the eduroam wireless network on campus and sign in using your Drake email address and password. Over the summer, ITS staff added additional connection points to strengthen the wireless network in the residence halls. Still having an issue connecting in your room? Or in another campus building? Report a Network Issue, and ITS staff will investigate. Reminder: DUGuest is only for visitors and many campus resources are unavailable from this limited network.

Gaming and streaming devices: Connect your gaming console, smart TV, or streaming device at registeradevice.drake.edu/ using a device connected to the eduroam network and follow the onscreen instructions. See Connecting a Game Console, Smart TV, or Streaming Device to the Drake Network (How-to). If you live in the residence halls, and want a wired connection, please submit a Network Request.

myDrake campus portal: Access myDrake at my.drake.edu. It provides links to many other applications and sites with information about campus life and access to the functions you need including Self Service/MyDUSIS, email, and Blackboard Learn Ultra.

Blackboard Learn Ultra: There are major changes in the look and feel of your courses this fall in Blackboard Learn Ultra. Visit Getting Started: Navigate Inside a Course to see what’s changed. Need help once you’re in Blackboard Learn Ultra? Look for the purple question mark in the bottom corner of your screen. Direct any questions about a specific course to your instructor, but if you have technical issues, visit the Blackboard Learn Ultra category in the ITS Service Portal.

Campus printing: New printers are being rolled out across campus, so you might already see a new device in your area. Upload documents to the virtual queue at print.drake.edu and print at any device across campus. Full time students receive a $20 printing credit each semester. Learn more at Printing for Students (How-to). If you’re using your Drake ID to print for the first time (because you’re new, or you had to replace your ID card), you must activate your card before printing or copying. See Activating your Drake ID for Printing or Copying (How-to).

MyDUSIS/Self Service: Over the summer, we released updated screens and functions in MyDUSIS/Self Service and will be releasing additional updates throughout the year. My Information, located in the My Drake Profile section of myDrake takes you to an updated screen that’s a central location for your personal information. If you’re a student worker, you’ll see new screens for submitting your timesheets from the Employee Dashboard link in the Student Employment section of myDrake. Learn more at Filling out Timesheets for Student Employees (How-to).

Connect with ITS: Want to know about tech changes? Outages? Watch for more ITS information in upcoming issues of OnCampus, follow Drake ITS on Twitter @DrakeITServices, watch our news feed on drake.edu/its or service.drake.edu/its, or sign up for outage text messages by texting DrakeITS2021 to phone number 226787. NOTE: You must be already signed up to receive texts from Bulldog Alerts to add the ITS outage messages.

Want to work for ITS? Log in to Handshake from myDrake (in the Campus Resources section) and apply for a student support center tech position. Open to all majors and years, no experience required.

University Bookstore pickup/checkout process

We want to let you know of some protocols in place this fall as we are still navigating through COVID-19 restrictions and a new renovation changing our layout. Please see below for textbook best practices.

Online order pickup: To limit congestion, pickups will be done on the north end of Pomerantz stage in the Olmsted Center.

Buying books: To avoid a longer line or out-of-stock’s, order online at www.universitybook.com or through your class schedule in myDUSIS. We partner with 1,200 colleges and universities across the country to assist with order fulfillment.

If you want to buy your books in-store, there will be a link to enter your student ID to pull your syllabus in order by author. That will streamline how we find your books. This will also be done at the Pomerantz stage.

Additional emergency assistance for Drake students

The following message was sent to all Drake students on July 14, 2021. Questions may be directed to the Office of Student Financial Planning.

Drake University is excited to announce additional emergency assistance of $3,225,972 that will be available to students with financial need and those who have experienced economic hardship caused by COVID-19. The University has accepted a third allocation of funding through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF III), made possible by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA).

These grants may be used for any component of a student’s cost of attendance or for expenses that arise due to the coronavirus. As required by ARPA, Drake will prioritize funding for students considered to have exceptional need. In a departure from its earlier practice, the U.S. Department of Education has determined that DACA, undocumented, and international students will be eligible to receive these funds.

Drake University will allocate funds through two primary methods:

1) based on a student’s estimated family contribution (EFC) as calculated by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
2) through an application-based process

Awards determined by EFC will be automatically distributed to current Drake students with a completed 2021–2022 FAFSA on file with the University. We anticipate we will be ready to distribute payments to students at the beginning of the fall 2021 semester. Eligible students will receive a notice of their payment amount through their Drake email account. While not required, students will have the ability to authorize the University to apply the payment toward their billing balance.

The application-based process will serve students who do not qualify under the EFC-based methodology, but who can demonstrate that they have exceptional need, including:

• students who cannot complete the FAFSA (e.g., DACA, undocumented, or international students)
• students whose EFC from the 2021–2022 FAFSA is higher than the established eligibility threshold
• students who are not currently enrolled but were enrolled on or after March 13, 2020 and who incurred costs caused by COVID-19

We anticipate the application-based process will be finalized and become available by early August, with applications being approved for payment on a rolling basis beginning in August and continuing until funds are exhausted. While not required, students will have the ability to authorize the University to apply the payment to their billing balance. Additional announcements will be made when the application becomes available.

Students who are eligible to complete the 2021–2022 FAFSA are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. In addition, we encourage students who have been impacted economically by the COVID-19 pandemic to review information about how to submit a Financial Aid Appeal, which may result in increases to a student’s eligibility for financial aid. If you have questions or need assistance completing an appeal, please contact the Office of Student Financial Planning.

Director of Financial Aid
