Pappajohn entrepreneurial venture competition
This competition is for full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate students who have an interest in starting their own venture. Students can participate as individuals or as teams. Applications must be for a startup or new business only, not for existing businesses. Regional winners receive $500 and advance to the finals where three finalists will be selected to receive $5,000. Applications are due Friday, March 30. Drake regional presentations are Friday, April 6. If selected as a finalist, presentations to Mr. Pappajohn are scheduled for Friday, April 20. Teach English in China
Drake’s Teach in China Program offers recent graduates from any academic background the opportunity to live and work in China teaching English for a year. Since 2004, Teach in China has placed over 220 graduates in teaching positions. The program is designed to respond to each participant’s interests by offering unique placements. Whether you are interested in gaining teaching, international, or Chinese cultural experience, the Teach in China program will work to find the best setting to help you meet your goals.
Teachers are considered full-time employees and compensated accordingly. No teaching experience or Chinese language skills are required.

SJMC J-Term class makes the news
A J-Term class co-taught by Tobi Parks, adjunct, and Tom Swartwood, entrepreneurship professor, was featured on a local TV newscast. The class focuses on the recorded music industry: Students learn about the business, and then produce a show. Parks is a former Sony Music executive from New York City who is the founder of Station One Records, which is opening a Drake neighborhood studio for recording, promoting and providing performance space for local bands. Professor featured in L.A. Times article
Professor Sandy Henry, who has conducted research into Super Bowl advertising, was a featured expert in a recent story in the Los Angeles Times about the state of advertising for the iconic sports event. Henry also is scheduled to give a lecture on Super Bowl advertising for Drake alumni on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 6:30 p.m. in Levitt Hall of Old Main.
