Drake’s four choruses are open to all Drake students–regardless of major or year in school–and provide rehearsal and performance experiences for singers at a variety of levels of skill and experience. More than 250 singers participate in these musical ensembles and cherish opportunities for engaging rehearsals, meaningful performances, and transformational tours.
Auditions for Drake’s three select choirs (Drake Choir, Chamber Choir, Chorale) will take place from Thursday, Aug. 23, through Sunday, Aug. 26. Detailed information is available at drake.edu/music/. The audition sign-up schedule, musical excerpts, and information will be posted on the bulletin board outside Harmon Fine Arts Center, Room 240, on Aug. 21. Contact Aimee Beckmann-Collier, director of choral studies, at aimee.beckmann-collier@drake.edu for further information.
Students wishing to participate in the Drake’s non-auditioned ensemble, the Drake University/Community Chorus, can do so by coming to the first rehearsal on Tuesday, Aug. 28, from 6:30-8 p.m. in Sheslow Auditorium. Please purchase the music (Dona nobis pacem, a moving choral/orchestral work using the poetry of Walt Whitman in a plea for peace) in the University Book Store and bring it and a pencil to the first rehearsal.
